My Worthy Bother Knights,
It’s hard to believe that we are a third of the way through the fiscal year. This last weekend at church we discussed vocations. Our SOS checks will be going to the seminarians soon. Did your Council participate last year in funding this very important program?
Supreme has rolled out a new program called “Fishers of Men”. This program provides materials and guidance on how to invite our Catholic brothers to join the order. It is an opportunity to share our Order to other Catholic men. Please check out this program from Supreme as it provides some great resources.
As your new IPSD, I have asked and been granted the opportunity to work on two projects. First is the restart of the State radio program / podcast: Knight Vision. I will discuss it more shortly. The second program is a new attention with Special Olympics towards their largest organized sport of bowling. I will provide more.
Knight Vision
For four years, the State Council of Indiana produced a topical radio program that discussed our Catholic faith and what we as Knights did to incorporate that faith into our lives. Earlier this year, I and our State Secretary stepped back from this task as Catholic Radio Indy was purchased and stopped airing our program. This has limited us to two small radio stations and our podcast as a means to share this program with you. If you haven’t listened to it yet, please check Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
We received some great comments on our efforts, and we used this program to highlight many of our Council programs. We are going to bring this program back as just a podcast. It is my intention to speak with another group of Indiana Knights that had a second local program on Catholic Radio Indy to see if we can work on this together and produce two podcasts. At this time, I am seeking other brother Knights in Indiana that would like to assist in the tasks involved with this program. If you would like to be part of this unique effort in our State, please reach out to me. IPSD @Indianakofc.org.
Special Olympics
Last month I spoke with Special Olympics of Indiana to discuss how the Knights could strengthen the relationship between the two organizations. We discussed funding, which remains great. The items that we found were the opportunities for growth was in volunteering. We looked at the sports that are significant for the Olympians and we found that their largest program is bowling. We as Knights are active in this as well. We have our bowling tournament in February, we have hosted the international tournament and many of our members play on their own.
With that in mind, I am asking that you contact your local county Special Olympics organizations and volunteer. Opportunities include: Coaching, Scorekeeping, distribution of medals and many other tasks. The bowling program runs year-round, with the annual tournament coming up in December. Let’s build on our progress and be more hands on by becoming volunteers.
Women’s Care Center Endowment
I checked with the Women’s Care Center Endowment, and I am very disappointed in our progress to date. Gentlemen, this is an opportunity to make a long-term difference for women and children. We can do this, and we can take advantage of the Supreme match through the ASAP program. WCC is currently working to develop a second location in Indianapolis. Remember, this organization staffs its locations so that they have trained ultrasound operators and counselors that are there on a regular schedule and not dependent on volunteers that may get pulled away by life’s demands. Please make a donation, every dollar helps today, tomorrow and for years into the future.
Gibault
Christmas is approaching quickly. The children at Gibault, many of whom have never had a Christmas present, need your care. Brothers. Let us show them the charity that Christ asks us to and give them the greatest Christmas celebration of their lives. Gibault has a gift list on their website, and we distribute these gifts before Christmas so that those children that go home for the holiday already have their gifts. Additionally, there is a Christmas party on December 26th for those children that stay at Gibault. Let them know the love of Christ through your efforts.
Closing Thoughts
As I think about our future, I am pleased to share that the State financial difficulties should be resolved this year with the increase of per capita. The Affiliate program is great but it definitely to a significant chunk out of the budget. Let’s keep this our programs going by inviting those Catholic men that we see in the pews to join us in our efforts. The more men, the more we develop our faith, the more we can accomplish.
Keep dreaming big and be ready to Evangelize Through Our Works.
